Eclectic Photography - Consisting Solely of My Work
from within my well thumbed-through wildflower book…  I identified these beauties that I found on a forest trail in northeast Iowa… these are called Bootjack, Beggars Ticks, Bur Marigold, or my favorite, Devil’s Pitch-Fork… the seeds of the plant are equipped with barbs that hold tenaciously to clothing, hence the commonality to all the aforementioned names… As seen in this photograph, some of the flower heads have pretty yellow rays (petals) while others have none, which is characteristic of this plant… In the past the leaves have been used for salads, although the plant is usually left alone to avoid the tenacious stick-to-seeds as well as an unpleasant odor, which I did not notice…
